A great writer with a unique style and a wonderful gift for poetic imagery. the Belgian singer/songwriter Jacques Brel sang mostly in French but also in Flemish, the English versions of his songs do not do him justice and offer a watered down taste of his talent. Edith Piaf said ' He goes to the limit of his strength because, through his singing, he expresses his reason for living and each line hits you in the face and leaves you dazed.' Well said , a unique talent.
This is a famous concert from Bergen in the Netherlands May 30th 1964

And a couple of you tubes of songs that aren't on the disc;
His most famous song, unlike the English translation honest, desperate, sad and beautiful. A young man desolate.
'Ne Me Quitte Pas'
and the first song of his I ever heard, the Brutal, incredible, powerful, (with an English translated idea of what he was singing)
Dans le Port d Amsterdam
A force of nature, Jacques Brel.
